Living Life: DISABLED PEOPLE SHOULD NOT HAVE THEIR FREEDOM LIMITED JUST BECAUSE OF THEIR DISABILITY

landmark victory was achieved for people under the care of the state when the Supreme Court ruled that disabled people should not have their freedom restricted just because of their disabilities.

The court found that two sisters with learning difficulties and a man with cerebral palsy who had been living in supported accommodation had been illegally deprived of their freedom under mental health laws. “People with disabilities, both mental and physical, have the same rights as the rest of the human race,” said Lady Hale, Deputy President of the Supreme Court.
